Extending for thousands of kilometers across Central Asia, the Tien Shan is one of the world's greatest mountain ranges. This brilliant 2-week trip takes us into the most spectacular part of the range and treks to the basecamps of each of its biggest peaks, Peak Pobeda (7439m) and Khan Tengri (7010m). From the Kazakh capital of Almaty, we drive to the Kyrghizstan border to begin our trek. Following shepherds' trails through pine forest and alpine meadows, we cross the 4000 meter Tyuz Pass to reach the remote Inylchek Valley with its numerous glaciers and towering rocky summits. Exploring this glaciated wilderness, we will visit ice-bound Merzbacher Lake and have lots of time to admire Khan Tengri - one of the world's most striking peaks. An exciting helicopter transfer back to civilization allows us to maximize the time we spend in the high mountains. This is a great short trek and a real taste of Central Asia!
