The Northern Tien Shan mountains are located on southeast border
of Kazakhstan. They consist of two main ridges - the Kungei Alatau
and the Zailyiski Alatau. The Highest Summit of this region is Talgar
Peak (5017 m). The Northern slopes have a considerable ice-coverage.
In the Zailyiski Alatau there are 466 glaciers, covering an area
of 510 sq. km. The largest are: Krzhanevskogo Glacier (12 km long,
50 sq. km), Bogatyr Glacier (8 km long, 39 sq. km), Dmitriyev Glacier
(5 km long, 19 sq. km), Shokalski Glacier (5 km long, 16 sq. km),
Central Tuyuksu Glacier (5 km long, 14 sq. km). This is the best
region for skiing on unprepared slopes, and it is possible to select
routes both for easier and for extreme skiing. The height-difference
is up to 900 m. The high-altitude helicopter MI-8 MTV 1, based in
the ski resort "Chimbulak", can take aboard up to 15 skiers simultaneously.
A guide and guide-assistant accompany the group during the skiing.
The ski-resort hotel "Chimbulak" (2200 m), can offer our guests
upon request a trip to Almaty city, where you can visit a casino
or night club.
