Day 1
|
Arrive Almaty. |

Day 2
|
BTransfer to the Hotel Hyatt Regency Almaty . Dinner at the
hotel. Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Botanical Garden
to get acquainted with the regions flora. Drive north-west across
the cultivated arable plains to the north of Almaty, to Tamgaly
Tas Gorge (rolling hills and rocky valleys are the famous site
of some fine and extensive rock engravings dating from the early
Bronze Age) - 160 km. Lunch in picnic style on the way. Camping.
Both Qetrovski's Tulip and the stocky Albert's Tulip should
be in bloom during the visit. Dinner at the gamp. |

Day 3
|
Breakfast at the camp. Drive to Merke Gorge, stopping on the
route on the Kurdai Pass to look for the carpets of Kolpakovsk's
Tulips, which should be at the best at this season, together
with some hybrid forme and the small Tulipa bifloriformis in
full bloom. Merke Gorge is situated in the Alatau mountain range.
The steep slopes of Merke are covered by dark green clumps of
ferns (Ceterax officinarum, Asplenium septentrionale and Cystopteris
fragilis) as well as relict "Iron Tree" (Celtis caucasica) and
the star attraction of this interesting area -Zinaida's Tulip,
an endemic species of Alatau. Lunch in picnic style on the way.
Camping. Time to explore and enjoy the area. Dinner at the camp.. |

Days 4-9
|
Breakfast at the camp. Drive to Aksu Dzabayly Nature Reserve,
the oldest in Centra! Asia having been established in 1927,
making two bot Homeland of Tulips 14 major stops in order tu
explore both the Kuyuk Pass and the Syrdarynski Karatau Range,
where Greig's Tulip, the largest and most spectacular of the
world's wild tulips, is blooming. Accommodation at guesthouse
for á-night stay. Exploration of the Boioldai Gorge, well-known
for its unrivalled density of Grieg's Tulips, with 20-40 flowering
individuals in squire meter! Visit to the distinctive Central
Asian open forest that consists of Pistacia vera and Crategus
pontica, as well as Pyrus regelii, Vitis vinifera, Ctartegus
turkestanicus, Malus sieversii, Sorbus persica, Prunus sogdiana
and Padus mahaleb. Visit to the Gorges of Aksu for looking for
numerous ephemeris, most of which are endemic (including Korolkowia
sewerzowi, Phinopelaturn stenantherurn, Scilla pushkinioidee
, over ten species of flowering Gagea, Crocus alatavicus, Iridodyctium
kolpakowskianum ynd Ixilirion tataricum) and encounter over
ten species of flowering Astragallus, several species of beautiful
buttercups and three attractive species of Corydalis.. |

Days 10-11
|
Two-day trip to the Saryyaigyr in the Karzhantau Ridge. Acquaintance
of Ferula tenuisecta, F. Penninervis, Prangos pabbularia and
patches of forest consisting of the very beautiful 'weeping'
form of Juniperus semiglobosa and the local attraction of the
population of Kaufmann's tulips with over ten different forms
in bloom! Other species include Plygonatum sewerzowi, Rannunculus
paucidentatus and Saxifraga sibirica. Camping at Saryyaigyr
Gorge. |

Day 12
|
Breakfast. Drive to Shimknet, botanising a little en route.
Catch the overnight sleeper train to Almaty.. |

Day 13
|
Breakfast in the train. At arrival to Almaty drive up into
Tien Shan Mountains to the Big Almaty Lake by 4WD Bus - 32 km.
Accommodation at the Hotel of Astronomical Observatory (2800
m). Lunch at the Observatory. Enjoying the fine flora of the
high meadows of the Tien Shan, Excursion to the telescope is
available in the night time. Dinner at the Observatory. |

Day 14
|
Breakfast at the Observatory. Full morning exploring the fabulous
mountains habitats that surround the observatory. On the mountain
slopes all around the Observatory lie colorful alpine pastures,
stately forests of Tien Shan Spruce, and areas of boulders and
Turkestanic Juniper cover beloved of accentors, warblers and
finches. Above tower craggy peaks and snowbound summits from
which Himalayan Snowcocks loudly pronounce their domain and
where wary Ibex wander, Below lies Big Almaty Lake. The area
is a botanist's paradise. After lunch at the Observatory drive
back down to Almaty, accommodation at Hyatt Regency Almaty hotel.
Time to relax Dinner at the hotel. Transfer to the airport. |
